Ingrown toenails can be very painful and are susceptible to infection. For this reason we make sure that you are seen right away. Just let the office personnel know that you have an ingrown toenail and they will schedule you for the same day or first thing the following business day.
Treatment for Ingrown Toenails
Treatment for ingrown toenails usually involves a local anesthetic and removal of the ingrown nail edge. They typically heal quickly once the offending edge is removed. For recurring ingrown toenails, the nail edge can be removed and chemically treated so that it will not grow back. This usually involves only a small portion of the nail and will leave a normal looking toenail once it heals.

Dr. Schroeder and his staff understand that ingrown toenails are not only painful but the very thought of what the treatment might involve can be very stressful. Relax, we make every effort to make your experience as pleasant and painless as possible. A cold, topical spray is first applied to the skin before injecting the local anesthetic. We then make sure your toe is completely anesthetized before proceeding with the procedure. Once the procedure is complete it is not uncommon to hear patients say “that was not as bad as I thought-why did I wait so long!”
